Two stories of struggle documented by the UP CIDS Program on Alternative Development are included in this volume by the Global Tapestry of Alternatives.

The Konfederasi Pergerakan Rakyat Indonesia (KPRI) or Confederation of Indonesia Peoples Movement is a national grassroots federation consisting of unions of women, workers, peasants, fisherfolk, indigenous peoples, and the urban poor.

The Bakwit School of Save Our Schools (SOS) Network is the fruition of decades-long struggle by the Lumad people in Mindanao, Philippines. It is a temporary mobile school created by the parents, teachers, and supporters to sustain the education of the Lumad youth.
