General Policies and Services

Authorized Users

  • Regular Users: Research Fellows (UP Faculty and external specialists), REPS, and CIDS Administrative Staff (permanent, temporary, and contractual).
  • Non-Regular Users: University officials, students, faculty, alumni, visiting scholars, and authorized researchers from other government agencies or private institutions.

General Policies

  • Registration: First-time users must present a valid ID and complete a user profile. Non-regular users must provide a letter of introduction addressed to the Executive Director or Librarian.
  • Borrowing: Only CIDS researchers and staff attached to the Center for at least one month are granted borrowing privileges (maximum of 5 volumes). Reference materials, encyclopedias, and dictionaries are for library use only.
  • Fines & Losses: Overdue materials are subject to fines based on UP Main Library rates. Lost materials must be replaced within 30 days, plus applicable processing fees.
  • Facilities: Food and beverages are prohibited. Internet access is restricted to academic research only.

Acquisition and Collection

  • Acquisition: Materials are acquired through purchase, gifts, exchange, and direct solicitations. Requests for purchase must be approved by the Executive Director.
  • Collection: The library houses approximately 5,000 volumes, including specialized research reports produced by the Center, serials, and Philippine broadsheets.
  • Digitization: To ensure long-term preservation and access, the Center has digitized its publications, making them available to patrons and researchers.

Classification and Access

  • Classification: The library utilizes the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) Scheme.
  • Cataloging: The library is currently encoding its collection for easier bibliographic access and is in the process of integrating its records into the UP Diliman Library System’s TUKLAS system.
  • Access: UPCIDS Publications are uploaded in the UPCIDS website and are available FREE to download.
  • Others: The UPCIDS Publications are also encoded into the Socioeconomic Research Portal for the Philippines (SERP-P) of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) as part of UPCIDS partnership agreement.
