Contesting the Philippines: A Forum and Book Launch

The UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UP CIDS) is organizing a forum and book launch, “Contesting the Philippines,” on 7 August 2024, 9 am – 12 noon, UP CIDS, Lower Ground Floor, Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman, QC. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is first-come, first-served. Participants are encouraged to pre-register.

ABOUT THE FORUM and BOOK

As the Marcos Jr. administration enters its third year, the six years of the Duterte presidency merits a much closer double-take. The book, Contesting the Philippines, maps a period of “contesting the Philippines” during the Duterte administration (2016–22), a period of an intense, normative and practical struggle to shape of the Philippines’ most critical institutions, emerging actors the spectrum of Filipino politics.  View full list of chapter titles and contributing authors.

The book can help scholars and policymakers today spot continuities and ruptures across the two administrations, identify the directions the Philippines may be moving, and craft appropriate interventions. Co-edited by Steven Rood and Veronica Taylor, Contesting the Philippines is published by ISEAS Publishing in Singapore.
