AI-Driven Solutions for the Philippine Education Sector: Stakeholder Insights and Policy Proposals

Get ready for a deep dive into the future of education in the Philippines! An upcoming webinar will feature Ms. Eleni Ilkou, a Greek doctoral student based in Germany, who will present her groundbreaking research on using AI to address the country’s most pressing educational challenges on August 18, 2025 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM via Zoom. This event is organized by the UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies Data Science for Public Policy Program and  CHARITY Philippines.

Eleni’s study goes beyond theoretical concepts, drawing from her on-site visits to eight non-governmental organizations across Manila and Bohol. She’ll be presenting a paper that highlights both the immense potential and the critical limitations of AI-driven solutions. Her work emphasizes the importance of “participatory design,” a methodology that ensures technology is developed in collaboration with the people who will actually use it, as well as the need for robust ethical frameworks to guide AI implementation.

The highlight of the event will be the reaction panel, where two distinguished Filipino experts will offer their insights on Eleni’s findings:

1. Dr. Reinald Pugoy, Director, UPOU ICT Development Office; Associate Professor, UPOU Faculty of Information and Communication Studies; Program Chair, Associate of Science in Information Technology

2. Dr. Vladimer Kobayashi, a DSPPP Research Fellow and UP Mindanao Professor and Program Coordinator on Data Science.

This webinar is a must-attend for anyone interested in the intersection of technology and education. It promises to be a dynamic and engaging discussion that bridges international research with local expertise, providing valuable recommendations for researchers, policymakers, and NGOs.
