PEER REVIEW POLICY

The Philippine Journal of Public Policy: Interdisciplinary Development Perspectives (PJPP) conducts a double-blind peer review process for its articles.

Initial Review

Prior to the peer review, a technical review process is conducted by one of the members of the editorial team. The article is checked for compliance with the technical requirements of journal articles (i.e., word count, abstract, key words, citation style, complete references and figures). A plagiarism check is also done to ensure the originality of the articles submitted. Should an article have been sourced from existing publications (i.e., articles, monographs, discussion papers, and policy briefs) or externally funded, the author will be asked to indicate this.

A substantive review will be conducted by the editor-in-chief and the editorial team before forwarding the article to peer reviewers.

Peer Review

The PJPP follows a double-blind review process. Peer reviewers are selected in accordance to the relevance of their field to the manuscript theme or topic. Peer review guide questions are given to the reviewers for their evaluation. The guide questions cover the contribution, literature review, substance, coherence and organization, writing style, and overall quality of the article.

Length of Peer Review

Peer reviewers are given a month to assess the quality of the given manuscript, after which the article is returned to the author for revisions (major or minor) where the reviewers deem fit. For the author’s revision, a period of one to three months is given. After this, the Editor-in-Chief, along with the editorial staff, will determine whether the article author has satisfied the recommended changes in the peer review. If the article passes this assessment, it will be forwarded for copyediting and layout before publication.

Other Sections of the PJPP

Other sections of the journal, such as Policy Insights, Review Essays, and Book Reviews, are not subjected to the peer review process for articles, but are treated to the initial assessment under the editorial staff and the Editor-in-Chief. These additional contents may not come out regularly for every volume of the PJPP.
