Philippine Local Government Interactive Dataset Project: A CIDS Website

About the Project
The “Philippine Local Government Interactive Dataset Project” is a website that compiles and analyzes electoral and fiscal data from 1992 to 2022. It aims to cover all candidates, all provinces, and all cities.
This data-driven platform helps the public:
-
- Identify election winners and losers from 1992 to 2022
- Trace election patterns for over three decades
- Determine LGU spending on public services
By offering insights into local government structures, functions, and performance, this groundbreaking initiative seeks to empower citizens to create informed decisions on political candidates, through reviewing government spending and governance trends leading up to the 2025 elections. It seeks to promote a more transparent and accountable local governance system in the Philippines.
The project-website has the following core components:
-
- Data Compilation: Gathering publicly available electoral and fiscal data from multiple sources.
- Interactive Platform: Building a user-friendly interface with visualizations to easily interpret complex datasets.
- Insights and Analysis: Providing tools to explore historical data and understand local government performance.
- Dataset Access: Providing free unrestricted citizen access to a dataset of electoral competition and fiscal performance for all provinces and cities from 1992 to 2022.
Events
On 31 July 2024, the project team convened a comprehensive roundtable discussion (RTD) with key stakeholders, industry experts, and end-users to evaluate the functionality, usability, and broader potential of the beta website. This event aimed to gather critical insights, identify areas for enhancement, and assess how well the platform aligned with user needs and organizational objectives. Participants engaged in an open dialogue, which yielded actionable recommendations to refine the website’s design, navigation, content structure, and technical performance. The video of the RTD may be viewed in the CIDS Youtube channel. Dr. Panao’s interview with Radyo 630 may also be accessed here.
Following the RTD, the PSPC analyzed the feedback and prioritized revisions to optimize user experience. Over the subsequent months, iterative updates were implemented, including streamlined interface elements, improved accessibility features, and enhanced backend responsiveness. After thorough testing and validation, the finalized version of the website was officially launched on 8 November 2024. The release marked a significant milestone for the project, reflecting both the collaborative input from the RTD and the team’s commitment to delivering a user-centric digital platform. The website may be accessed here.
Post-launch metrics and user comments were considered and are currently being integrated in the website. The website is still a work in progress, and any kind of feedback is welcome.
