The University of the Philippines Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UP CIDS) was recognized last 29 November 2023 as the “top contributor” for 2023 to the Socioeconomic Research Portal for the Philippines (SERP-P), a free online repository of various publications from different research institutions.

As a SERP-P partner organization and the policy research unit of UP, CIDS submitted around 300 publications this year, the most among SERP-P-affiliated organizations. These include policy papers, research reports, and/or issues of the public policy journals from 1990 onwards, among many others. Many more are available – all for free – in the UP CIDS Database.

SERP-P is maintained by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), the primary policy research agency of the Philippine government.

The recognition was given during the 2023 Socioeconomic Research Portal for the Philippines (SERP-P) Network Annual Symposium and Meeting held at Richmonde Hotel Ortigas, Pasig City.  The theme of the event was “Trends and Innovations in Knowledge Dissemination.”

The SERP-P Symposium also featured several presentations:

  • “Leveraging Digital Innovations for Research Communication” by Ms. Pinky Serafica, Senior Communications Officer of the Asian Development Bank
  •  “Effective Media and Public Relations for Research Dissemination” by Ms. Mary Claire G. Mercado, Copy Editor and Consultant of CNN Philippines; and
  • “How Artificial Intelligence Can Reshape Research Institution,” presented by Dr. Peter Sy, Associate Professor from the Department of Philosophy, UP Diliman

Mr. Joseph Cruzado, Scientific Documentation Officer II and Librarian-in-Charge of the UP CIDS Library and Resources, represented CIDS during the event, and received the plaque of recognition.  He is the UP CIDS’ point person with SERP-P, and has uploaded around 348 policy papers (as of November 2023) since UP CIDS began contributing to the repository.

The citation reads in part that CIDS’ contributions helped SERP-P “grow continuously and become a useful knowledge resource.” View plaque.

Mr. Cruzado shared that he received comments on how “beautiful (maganda)” CIDS publications are. One participant, he added, admired UP CIDS for regularly and efficiently coming out with printed copies of its publications.

Established in 1985, UP CIDS is mandated to pursue and disseminate policy research on various issues. It currently houses twelve Research Programs, covering politics, higher education, basic education, development, political economy, data science, Islamic Studies, decolonization, and foreign policy, among others.
