On 5 September 2024, the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) and the University of the Philippines (UP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), strengthening the institutions’ cooperation in the field of research. Through this, the FSI and the Center for Integrative and Development Studies (CIDS), UP’s policy research unit, will have an expanded communication on national, regional, and international issues. It also aims to support the nation-building effort through the overall development of research and publications, intellectual exchange, as well as sharing of educational and cultural resources.
The signing of the MOU highlights FSI’s and UP CIDS’ commitment to promote understanding of the Philippines’ maritime and archipelagic identity. The ceremony also coincides with the celebration of the Maritime and Archipelagic Awareness Month (MANA MO).
