UPCIDS goes to SLSU for Policy Paper Training

UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UPCIDS) Executive Director Rosalie Arcala Hall served as the resource person for a training on writing research-based policy papers at Southern Luzon State University (SLSU). The “Training on Writing Research-Based Policy Papers” was conducted as part of SLSU’s Huntahan, an International Research Seminar Series,and took place from March 21-22, 2025 at the SLSU Lucban Campus.
UPCIDS Executive Director Hall was warmly welcomed by the SLSU delegation led by President Dr. Frederick T. Villa, Vice President for Research, Extension, Production, Development, and Innovation Dr. Marissa C. Esperal, Office Research Services Director Dr. Nicanor Guinto, and Knowledge Management Office Head Amiel Jansen Demetrial.
SLSU President Villa greatly appreciated the time UPCIDS and its Executive Director took to share their expertise on policy research and expressed his hope for continued collaboration between the two institutions
During the two-day training, UPCIDS Executive Director Hall shared her expertise on policy research and policy paper writing. Participants then worked on transforming their research papers into policy papers, which were critiqued by Executive Director Hall on the workshop’s final day. She expressed optimism about the drafts presented by the participants and encouraged them to continue what they had started. Executive Director Hall also thanked SLSU for reaching out to UPCIDS and hopes for more similar activities in the future.
During the training, UPCIDS also met with former SLSU President Doracie Zoleta-Nantes who is a former research fellow at UPCIDS. She was very enthusiastic about the collaboration and glad that UPCIDS have accepted the invitation from SLSU. She also hoped for more collaboration between UPCIDS and other state universities and colleges.
This activity was conducted in support of the University of the Philippines’ Flagship Program Number 5: Public Service for the Common Good, which calls for Active and Collaborative Partnerships with SUCs, NGAs, LGUs, Private Sector, and Civil Society.
UPCIDS hopes to establish further collaborations of this nature with other state universities and colleges.
