Science Diplomacy for Environmental Governance: Strengthening Philippine Engagement in Global Environmental Agreements

“Bridging Science and Diplomacy for Strengthened Environmental Governance”

About the Event

The Initial Stakeholders’ Meeting marks the formal launch of the project Science Diplomacy for Environmental Governance: Strengthening Philippine Engagement in Global Environmental Agreements. The activity will bring together representatives from government agencies, academic and scientific institutions, regional organizations, and civil society groups to discuss opportunities for enhancing the integration of scientific knowledge into environmental governance, policy development, and international cooperation.

Concept Note

Environmental governance and international environmental negotiations increasingly benefit from strong collaboration between scientific experts, policymakers, and diplomatic practitioners. This project seeks to strengthen the science–policy–diplomacy interface by identifying institutional mechanisms, governance arrangements, and policy pathways that can further support the use of scientific expertise in environmental governance and international engagement.

As the project’s inaugural stakeholder engagement activity, the Initial Stakeholders’ Meeting aims to validate the preliminary institutional mapping and desk review findings; gather stakeholder perspectives on existing coordination mechanisms and opportunities for collaboration; and establish partnerships that will support succeeding research activities.
